Android guide to setup Optonline.net mail

1 Open your Email application from the menu, add a new account and choose 'Other'.

If you do not have an account yet, you can start setting up right away. Otherwise, open 'Settings' in the email app and choose 'Add account'.

2 In the next screen enter your account details and click on 'Login':

Email: your Optonline.net email address
Password: your Optonline.net email password

3 Choose imap and enter the following details under 'Server incoming mail':

imap server: mail.optonline.net
Security type: ssl
Port: 993

4 Your account is now ready to use.

Congratulations, your account is now set up. Open the email app on your smartphone to use your email.

  • In response to the problem of “cannot get email set up on a new Android phone”: I received the exact same message of “couldn’t open connection to server” even after following instructions. Solution for me was to enter mail.optonline.net for BOTH the incoming & outgoing servers. I had successful results afterwards.

  • I CANNOT CONNECT MY OPTIMUM.NET E-MAIL TO MY PHONE. I HAVE AN LG 200-SP. WILL THIS EVEN WORK> IF IT DOES'T I WILL BUY A NEW PHONE THAT WILL ACCEPT OPTIMUM

  • Cannot get email set up on a new Android phone. Never had this problem on previous Android phones. Followed your instructions and get a "couldn't open connection to server" message. Please advise. Thanks.
